The Manuscript Codex * Parts and positions
INNER COVER

The surface of the front and back covers, envelope flap and fore-edge flap visible only when the covers and flaps are open. Usually on the covers this surface consists of doublures or pastedowns and a lining material on the flaps. However, in the absence of doublures or pastedowns the inner cover consists of bare boards. In manuscripts with a leather binding but lacking boards, the inner cover is the flesh side of the leather making up the binding.
